El Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) pidió al Ministerio Público que investigue al presidente Luis Abinader, ya que alega que su campaña fue financiada con dinero del narcotráfico.

Charlie Mariotti, secretario general del partido opositor, leyó documento en rueda de prensa con el acusó al Ministerio Público de «actuar como un instrumento de la reelección de Luis Abinader».

Advirtió que «no debe haber vacas sagradas». En ese sentido, preguntó «por qué las denuncias de corrupción del actual gobierno no han llegado a la justicia».

Indicó que el expediente del denominado caso Calamar fue preparado hace más de dos años, «y ahora es que los exponen a luz pública, por la proximidad de las elecciones de 2024».

Anunció que el PLD está en sesión permanente y que «en la reunión del domingo del Comité Central se tomarán importantes decisiones para la defensa de la democracia».

«Las calles de República Dominicana serán testigos de la lucha que librararemos en defensa de la democracia», expresó el también exsenador por la provincia Monte Plata, quien convocó a una jornada nacional de movilizaciones.

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) asked the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate President Luis Abinader, as it alleges that his campaign was financed with drug money.

Charlie Mariotti, secretary general of the opposition party, read a document at a press conference in which he accused the Public Ministry of "acting as an instrument of Luis Abinader's reelection".

He warned that "there should be no sacred cows". In this sense, he asked "why the denunciations of corruption of the current government have not reached justice".

He indicated that the file of the so-called Calamar case was prepared more than two years ago, "and it is now that they are exposed to public light, because of the proximity of the 2024 elections".

He announced that the PLD is in permanent session and that "in Sunday's meeting of the Central Committee important decisions will be made for the defense of democracia."

"The streets of the Dominican Republic will witness the struggle that we will wage in defense of democracy," expressed the also former senator for Monte Plata province, who called for a national day of mobilizations.
